Darren Gilbert November 2011
Darren Gilbert started life in 1966 in England, and at the age of 2 migrated to Australia. He grew up on the beaches of Sydney, outback towns of Carvaran WA, and Brigalong, Bendigo, Ballarat and Sale in Victoria. His interest in drawing and painting began at a young age and encouraged by his parents studied art further at school. At the age of 15 Darren entered into Queensland University to study an Associate Diploma of Fine Arts, with a part scholarship for sculpting in the early 80’s.
Gilbert travelled around Australia drawing and painting along the way, igniting his interest in wildlife, especially birds. His first solo exhibition was in 1999 and since has participated in almost all WASA major Exhibitions over the last twelve years. Along with numerous group and community fine art exhibitions spanning over the last ten years.
Darren now resides in the Highlands area near Yea, and has work in select Galleries around the country. His work spans many mediums, and commonly features birds. This exhibition will be the first time Darren has shown paintings on canvas, alongside pen and ink drawings and sculpture.
